Happy 80th Birthday
God Bless
April 15, 1927
(Hmmm......this balcony looks familiar)

In the summer of 1967, Canada’s Centennial Year, my family traveled to Italy to visit my grandparents.  We flew with BOAC and the airplane made a pit stop in London, England, where we waited several hours for a connecting flight to Rome.  While we waited to board the next plane we met a lovely woman who introduced herself as Elizabeth and who liked me so much she wanted to take me home with her.  Enough said, of course, my parents wouldn’t let Elizabeth take me home with her and off we flew to Rome, Italy, to meet my grandparents and do a little sight seeing.

My parents had no sightseeing agenda, since they didn’t know if they would be able to find anyone to provide transportation for sightseeing, but during our stop in Rome we were able to visit the Vatican. Who would fly all that way in 1967 without visiting the Vatican?  Actually, if you remember the 1960’s, who travelled across the ocean on an airplane at all?  We did.

We had never seen pictures of the Vatican’s interior and we were in awe of all the beauty surrounding us. Who knew that the burial plots of our past Popes were inside, right under our feet! We were surrounded  by gold accessories, Michael Angelo originals and a Michael Angelo original on the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel that truly gave me a feeling of the “Wrath of God”.  It was breathtaking.

Then along came a Vatican Guard who invited our family on a tour of the Papal Office.  Do you believe that such a thing would happen?  It did.  There was about a dozen in the group and the Guard guided us to the outside of the Papal Office, at the door, where we were allowed to briefly look inside, but the Pope was not sitting behind that big desk.  The Guard then guided us to a very narrow flight of concrete stairs with concrete walls on both sides. I remember the steps being so high that I really had to stretch my legs to reach the next step and we walked up in a single file because it was so narrow that only one at a time could fit.  It was dark in the stairwell because there were so many people ahead of us and I cried because it was so scary.  When we finally got to the top of the stairs we were right there … at that balcony, above, where the Pope stands to address the crowds.

We were greeted by Clergy, Bishops and Cardinals who blessed us, and blessed us, and blessed us and then left us to enjoy the view but later came back to ask for our names to enter into the Vatican’s Guest Book.

I FOUND THE LINK ABOVE ON YOUTUBE BUT I DON'T UNDERSTAND THE LANGUAGE. GREAT PHOTOGRAPHY! HERE'S HOPING IT'S NOT OFFENSIVE!

SORRY FOR THE BELATED BIRTHDAY GREETING. WHERE WAS MY MIND! NEXT YEAR I'LL REMEMBER TO SEND A CARD.

AN E-MAIL FROM A FELLOW WORKER AT ANOTHER BRANCH

RE: Shane Bernier...cancer patient at CHEO in Ottawa
Hi.

Just forwarding a nice thought and wouldn't it be wonderful if he could achieve this. I do not usually forward emails of a chain letter but
thought it would be neat to be a part of something that is so big.

If you haven't heard about this story, let me tell you it is true! If you saw his smile you would know what this means to him. Buy a card at the dollar store and with the stamp it will cost you around $2.00. Believe me, his smile is worth every penny. Pass this on and help a little boys dream come true.

This is touching ...a young 7 year old Shane would like to receive "the most Birthday Cards" so he can enter the Guinness Book of World Records. His Birthday is May 30 and his address is ...........

Well all good things must come to an end. I’ve lost the Kyle Minogue Concert Link and MSN is using the link as a news channel. I’ll leave it alone. Maybe there’s a reason for it.

But what a beautiful concert by Kylie & Company! I really enjoyed that! Thanks for the great performance and all your hard work.

Samson and Delilah

She was bribed by the Philistines, and discovered that his strength came from his hair which had never been cut. While he was asleep it was cut, Samson was drained of his strength and the Philistines were able to capture him. Old Testament (Judges 16: 17-20).

Delilah puts Eve to shame!!!

HAIR has been an obsession with the human race since biblical times. Today’s technology gives us a wide variety of hair products to suit an equally wide variety of hairstyles, hair types and colors. Next time you are in the hair care section of a pharmacy notice how much space is devoted to hair care products. Why do we put all this stuff on our hair? It costs us a small fortune and it all washes out and goes down the drain the next time we wash our hair. I wonder why Green Peace hasn’t put a stop to this mess? Maybe they don’t realize just how much of these hair care products we use and wash down the drain to pollute our waterways. Let’s not forget our garbage crisis. If we stop using mousse, gel, putty, mud, etc., etc., we won’t have all those containers to throw in the garbage. Can it be recycled? Some can.

Can’t I find a hairstyle that doesn’t need this stuff to look good? I would save a lot of money. I’ll keep trying.

Acrylic Nails

Remember when men were men and women were women? With the Women’s Movement women have climbed the Corporate Ladder and filled the roles of men as far as Management and Professional positions and now that they are in higher income brackets they have money to pamper themselves. I’ve noticed that spas, manicure, pedicure and acrylic nail shops are just about everywhere when once they were a treat for the elite. And don't forget botox and plasic surgery. Women can now afford to pamper themselves royally and the men who would have otherwise filled those Management positions and their families have access to their local food banks. Is this better? We can’t win for losing!

My Daughter's E-Mail - ATM Hold Ups

E-Mail:

"PIN NUMBER REVERSAL (GOOD TO KNOW)
If you should ever be forced by a robber to withdraw money from an ~ATM machine,~ you can notify the police by entering your Pin # in reverse. For example if your pin number is 1234 then you would put in 4321. The ATM recognizes that your pin number is backwards from the ATM card you placed in the machine. The machine will still give you the money you requested, but unknown to the robber, the police will be immediately dispatched to help you. This information was recently broadcasted on TV and it states that it is seldom used because people don't know it exists. Please pass this along to everyone possible."

Mom's Reply and Good Advice:

To My Darling Younger Daughter (Have you seen that blog of mine yet?).

I don't have much money and I withdraw a mere pittance since I live on bread and water and fast at least a day or two a week. If I get held up it may be a good thing since it will give me a reason to file yet another Police Report. I've had to file several already. It will work to my advantage. Send all those would be ATM robbers my way!

Let's face it, they have to eat too! Could this be why we have all these problems with so many bank hold ups? We all use credit and bank cards - there's no cash floating around out there. The bank tellers don't even have much cash in their tills so it takes more hold-ups to collect enough cash for these robbers to maintain their standard of living.

When I was a cashier the rule was, "If you are being robbed at gun point, let the robbers have all the money they want."

That's the way I see it!
